Todays article contains a few simple recommendations that will, in our opinion, do a measurable amount of good to help you on your way to improving your health. Although the recommendations are simple, they are powerful and effective. A solution to a problem need not be complex to be effective. We sometimes need to be reminded how much control we have over our own personal being. This not only includes our physical health, but our mental health, and spiritual health as well.
Common Distractions
As we walk through day-to-day life in current times we see people fixated on their smart phones. It becomes quite evident that there is addictive behavior being displayed regarding these devices. This article will not delve into the neuroscience that creates electro-chemical responses in the body which reinforces the addictive behavior but will recommend simple solutions to gently overcome the conditioning and help to improve ones health. Although make note that the powers that be would like you to maintain and foment this addiction.
I like many others found myself becoming addicted and needing to maintain a new type of connection utilizing my newly acquired “smart” device. Fortunately, I was able to gain control over my burgeoning addiction to the device. Below are some actions you can take when exercised daily will let you practice good health while simultaneously managing your electronic and connected lifestyle.
Tip #1 — Total Disconnection
Total disconnection can sound harsh to many today who feel that they must be connected at all times. While you will be totally disconnected, it will only be for periods of time that allow you to rest and regenerate to enhance your well-being. What you want to do is separate yourself from any electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops for 30 minutes prior to going to bed at night. We no longer keep these devices in our bedroom.
There are studies showing the detrimental effect of “blue” light, light that is emitted by electronic screens through LEDs (light-emitting diodes). This light can interfere with the bodies ability to make the change from producing serotonin to melatonin. This important neurotransmitter helps your brain transition from activity to a restful state. The neurotransmitter serotonin inversely causes more neural activity.
Not disregarding the science, but what is important here is to simply give this a try and see if it makes a difference in your general well-being. After one week, you will probably feel better rested and able to function more effectively. Remember that this is about improving your health.
Tip #2 — Eliminate Sugary Drinks
This tip is not necessarily for everyone but it will apply to a large segment of the population. If one action could be taken to improve the health of Americans overall, it would to abolish sugary drinks. But since this America and we have choice, we simply have to choose not to drink them or limit how much of them we consume. We cannot force people not to drink them, or tax them at a higher rate, but we must educate people on how detrimental they are to our health. These are the cause of may health problems. “Well, I drink diet soda.”, I have heard many say. That is a cruel irony for they may even be worse. I won’t go into great detail but after thoroughly research this topic, I chose not to drink them any longer. My health has benefited greatly from that decision.
Perhaps you can try some microgreens as a replacement? I think that is a great way to start improving your health.
Tip #3 — Processed Foods
Along with sugary drinks as above, processed foods are detrimental to our health. These foods are convenient and cheaper, everywhere you look. Some of the chemicals that are used to process these foods, for me at least are suspect and I don’t want to have them residing in my body. If you are having some difficulty in determining what is processed and what is not, simply follow what we taught our children. Look at the ingredients label and if you cannot pronounce what the substances are that makeup the product, don’t buy it or consume it. Also, we look for items that have only a very limited amount of ingredients. More than 5 or 7 is just too many for us. We have more on this later in another post or video as it is a deep topic.
My hope for you is that you give these tips a try, maybe for just a week and see how you feel about them. What have you got to lose? But more importantly, what do you have to gain? If you are feeling run down or dragging throughout the day, this may be a simple action you can take to make your health and your life better. Focus on you goal of improving your health.
